I’ve always been a rule-breaker at heart. Someone who challenges the rules and questions the status quo. 

When I entered the workforce I did so with lofty ambitions and a healthy sense of reality. The rules of the game had been made clear; I was to work twice as hard, twice as fast, and be twice as good. I became determined to find a different set of rules; a way to play the game while remaining true to me. 

By 27 I had earned my seat at the table and stepped into six-figure roles in the field I loved.

I had also confronted the devastating consequences of individual and systemic racism in the workplace.

This experience left me deeply grateful to my circle of support who showed up, believed in me, and affirmed my worth every day.

Their support planted the seeds for The Formation. 

As I navigated my career and the unique challenges that came with being one of the “only”, I was always on the hunt for tools that would help me succeed. What I found were generic, one-size-fits-all, extremely costly, and ill-equipped to help Black women navigate the realities of modern day work in America. As a talent development professional, I came to realize, we are the answer we’ve been searching for.

I launched The Formation in 2024 for those seeking community, resources, and a chance to be a part of the answer so many of us have searched for. It’s a space for change makers and game-changers. An invitation to rewrite the rules and model new possibilities for each other.
